Getting Started

When I was in college, I was on the varsity swim team. There was one weekend when we traveled to an away meet and a bunch of us were all just hanging out in our hotel room, relaxing and channel surfing. I happened to have control of the remote at the time and came across a WSM contest. I immediately stopped channel surfing and was totally engrossed in this sport I’d never seen before. I thought to myself, “man, that is the coolest thing I think I’ve ever seen! I wonder if there’s a women’s version?” Shortly thereafter, I saw Jill Mills winning the WSW contest. I decided then and there that I would be the World’s Strongest Woman someday. This goal of mine became a running joke on my swim team for all four years that I was in college, but I knew once I was done swimming I would begin my journey to becoming WSW. I went to Northern Arizona University for graduate school after I finished college and that’s when I began training and I watched my first amateur strongman contest in Phoenix. That’s absolutely when I knew that strongman is the sport for me! I’ve always loved lifting. I started lifting when I was a freshman in high school and always spent more time in the gym lifting than any girl I knew. After years of participating in sports where I only performed at a mediocre level, I think I’ve finally found my athletic calling in life.

Goals

My current goals to hit before the end of 2007 are: a 400 lb deadlift, 200 lb push press, 350 squat, 300 front squat. Someday, I’d like to have the title of WSW, although I’m not certain how long that specific title will exist in our sport. I’d love to compete internationally in the next year or so. I just want to be as strong as I can possibly be!
