Paxton Strongman Slam
Some great athletes came out for the first Paxton Strongman Slam. With 5 events in 2 hours it was a marathon but the athletes and crew had no problem handling the fast pace. First up was the Viking Press (LW 250, HW 300). In the Lightweights Dave Memont and Chris George tied with 13 reps but Michael Bompane edged them out with 14 reps. Joe Yurkunas was last to go and knowing that 15 reps would get him a first place finish did just that. In the heavyweights Zack Bussiere presses out 5 for the win. Next was the Axle deadlift (LW 455, HW 505). The lightweights had a three way tie for second with Chad Caffrey, Chris George and Chris Vaughn digging deep for 9 reps but it was Michael Bompane and Joe Yurkunas who battled it out again to tie for first with 14 reps. Zack Bussiere pulled an awesome 7 reps. Now it was on to the Tire flip (700 for both classes). This was made a little harder due to the slight incline on the 55 ft course. With Max Labier, Chris George and Dave Memont all finishing the course in the mid 30's it was Michael Bompane who blasted through the course in 28.21. In the heavies both Mathieu Bruneaux and Zack Bussiere finished but it was Zack's time of 22.62 that took the win. Next was the Farmer's walk (LW 245, HW 285) which was on the same course. Jason Toppin, Dave Memont, Max Labier finished the course in a little over 8 seconds but it was Michael Bompane who finished in a staggering 7.16. Zack Bussiere took first with just over 9 seconds. With the first 4 events being done in an hour and a half we decided to give the athletes a 15 minute break before the Atlas stones (LW 180-300, HW 240-350). The only lightweights to get all five stones were Dave Memont in 27.97 and Chris George getting the win with 25.06. Zack Bussiere won the heavies with 4 stones in 25.37. Thanks to Murph from Total Performance Sports (www.totalperformancesports.com) for doing an outstanding job as MC. Also to Dave Memont (www.mystrengthdiscovery.com) for bringing some goodies for the athletes and making us some great equipment as well as Bulky Boy for providing gift certificates for the winners. I huge thank you to Justin Warren, Paul Kuokkanen, Jim Pierce, Brian Kling and my brother Joshua. Without you we never would have finished in record time!
